Memories

We have about 20+ photo albums. All these photograph were taken before the digital camera was invented.  Once in a while, we seat together and look at the photographs, telling our son and each other the stories, and re-living those precious moments.  In preparation for our retirement abroad, we decided to digitize some of them so we can take a CD/DVD with us and lave another copy to our son.

There are hundreds of companies that provide such service – converting almost anything into the digital format (photos, tapes, slides, albums, etc).  There are also web sites that compare these companies and their services.

Here are my criteria for selecting the company:

  • Reputation/reviews
  • Processing facility location
  • Processing time (sometimes it takes up to 4-6 weeks)
  • Cropping/Rotation – additional cost
  • Price per photo
  • Shipping cost

After intensive research and analysis I selected a company that I can recommend to you.   Please note that I do not make any commissions or get paid for this referral, I just hope this will save you time and money.  The name is: Scan To Digital (http://scantodigital.com/)

I selected 2,048 (!) photos; packed them as was recommended, completed the form, and shipped via UPS (we try to avoid using regular postal service).

The price per photo is 12 cents, the cheapest on Internet!  The image rotation and cropping is included. The average processing time is four business days.

When we got my photos and DVD back, we looked through every image – no complain.

A few weeks later, the customer service send me a follow up email asking if everything was delivered as promised.  When the last time a follow up email was sent to you asking how you do like the service?

This type of customer service will be missed…

I am working on the second batch – black & white photos from our childhood, from our parents, and grandparents.
