Hot Topic – Retirement Abroad
I can’t believe! Retirement abroad is the favorite topic lately.
Here is another article “10 Countries Where Retirees Live Large” by Jason Notte originally published by TheStreet.com on June 20, 2012 and republished by Yahoo.
The opening paragraph of the article once again reveals the reality (for those who are still behind in realizing the Truth): “Retirement in the United States is nice and all, until they ask you to actually pay for stuff.
When retirees’ nest eggs are a finite and dwindling resource, rising local and federal taxes can put even the staunchest, flag-draped patriotism to the test. If retirees are willing to leave the states behind, the savings can be substantial.“
The list of retirement havens in article by Jason Notte is not too different from what we saw before: Panama, Mexico, Malaysia, Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador, Thailand, Spain, New Zealand.
The AARP’s article “Best Places to Retire Abroad” has a little bit different list – they exclude these too exotic countries: Malaysia and Thailand. Instead they are recommending Argentina, Belize, Costa Rica, France, Italy, and Portugal.
Another AARP Bulletin by Sid Kirchheimer, For Affordable Retirement, Think Abroad (Study: Americans can live well in other countries) refers to the International Living magazine.
“According to a recent study by International Living, Americans could retire 10 years earlier — and enjoy a higher standard of living — by moving beyond our country’s borders.”
Per International Living, “ Ecuador is the overall winner, with the lowest cost of living and real estate, reports the 2012 Global Retirement Index.”
I am grateful to see such articles. They again and again convince me that people can afford to live abroad even if they are not the lawyers or high paid executives.
And I promise, next post will about our “go digital” attempt.
